MS, LICSW FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

I am a co-founder and Executive Director of Stillpoint Engage, a psychotherapist, a faculty member for The Center for Mind-Body Medicine in D.C., and a Ph.D. candidate in Psychology & Humanistic Studies at Saybrook University in San Francisco, CA. In my role as a leader and the Executive Director of Stillpoint Engage, I strive to inspire and strengthen communities and individuals around the globe through a commitment to stewardship, in service to humanity. I received my M.S. in Social Work from Columbia University, New York, NY. For more than two decades, I have specialized in working as a psychotherapist in the area of trauma healing and resiliency working with individuals and communities impacted by trauma, often post-conflict and post-disaster. A most fulfilling part of my work is supervising and training professionals in the U.S. and overseas who work to meet the unique needs of their clients who have been impacted by trauma.

MD – CO FOUNDER

In addition to my role at Stillpoint Engage, I am president and founder of PrairieCare psychiatric hospitals and clinics in Minneapolis, and a practicing psychiatrist with a research background and more than 25 years of administrative experience in both academic and private healthcare settings. Although my core orientation as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist means I instinctively focus on intuiting underlying dynamics and forces, I am nonetheless devoted to using empirical, scientific methods wherever possible to check, verify, and refine these intuitions. I bring this attitude to Stillpoint Engage where I hope we can embolden humanitarian compassion in the world by demonstrating its real and enduring effects.

PhD CO-FOUNDER

Born in Athens. I am a co-founder of Stillpoint Engage and Stillpoint Spaces. I hold my psychoanalytic practice in Zurich, Switzerland, grounded in the midst of an organically growing community of like-minded colleagues from a variety of cultural backgrounds. My academic background spreads over the fields of history, international relations, and the philosophy of education, respectively (BA, MALD, Ph.D.). In addition to my clinical/analytical engagement, I have worked as a managing partner, project manager, consultant, and director in a variety of projects spanning from the private mental health sector to the non-profit humanitarian field. I am passionate about bridging psychoanalytic theory and practice with other fields and disciplines to alleviate suffering and empower individuals and communities. I am a member of the Association of Graduate Analytical Psychologists (AGAP) in Zurich, as well as a member of the International Association of Analytical Psychology (IAAP).

MS COMMUNICATIONS & CREATIVE DIRECTION

I am a cross-disciplinary creative director and experience designer with a passion for building sustainable brands through the design of compelling experiences, exhibitions & spaces that move people & brands to interact & thrive. I am a multi-degreed polymath – a TEDx speaker who studied journalism at Rhodes University, exhibition design and museum studies in Gothenburg and the performance dance known as ankoku butoh in Japan. My visitor experience design for hospitals, banks and heritage sites aim to enable deeper meaning and accessibility for all. My work can be experienced in major public exhibitions like Constitution Hill, Lilies Leaf farm and IZIKO museums of Cape Town as well as a host of self-initiated and internationally funded cultural projects including the visitor experience – wayfinding design of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital, and the development of Absa bank’s customer experience.

BRENT NELSON, MD SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT – THE NEUROBIOLOGY OF STRESS

I serve as the Chief Medical Information Officer and am a consultant for the Center for Neurotherapeutics at PrairieCare which is focused on ground-breaking technologies used in the treatment of complex disorders such as Major Depressive Disorder. In my free time I enjoy software development, IoT maker projects, 3D design, and woodworking.

DO RESILIENCENGAGE – REFERRAL PSYCHIATRIST

I have a clinical interest in treating mood, anxiety, and stress-related conditions, using both medication and psychotherapy. I treat children and adolescents in the collaborative setting of PHP, working within an interdisciplinary treatment team to strengthen and empower families.  I treat adults in her outpatient therapy clinic via referrals from Stillpoint Engage. I have been an attending physician at PrairieCare since 2016 and assumed the role of clinical director at PrairieCare Maplewood in 2020. I earned my bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Chicago and medical school degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. I completed my residency and subspecialty training in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

MA LP SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT – THE IMPACT OF TRAUMA

For 24 years I have been a licensed Psychologist providing psychological service in a private practice in the Minneapolis/St Paul area. This career choice to help people with their psychological well-being became my focus after a brief detour with a degree in architecture from Arizona State University where I studied aesthetic patterns of design,  construction and to build in a sustainable world.  I returned to school and received a degree in counseling psychology from University of St. Mary’s in Minneapolis.  I have gone on to receive additional education, certifications and training in contemporary psychoanalysis, infant development and trauma informed care and trauma research. The cohesive strand in all my studies has been observing that it is hard as human beings to escape this life without experiencing some type of trauma or severe life stressors that impacts our physical, psychological functioning and development.  My passion and my practice includes working with adults, adolescents and children, with my goal to create a safe, confidential, and restorative space to work on our psychological lives that have been impacted by in ways we did not intend and subsequently we wish to change. Our psychological wellness is linked to our confidence in ourselves, our relationships with others, our sense of efficacy in making the world work for us and our sense of purpose in living.

RN, MA RESILIENCENGAGE CLINICIAN

I have lived in downtown Minneapolis and the first ring suburbs for 30 years. My family and I enjoy time together on the Jefferson Chain of Lakes outside St. Peter. I am fortunate to have my four adult children and four grandchildren living nearby.

I have worked as a Respiratory Therapist, RN, and Nurse Practitioner for adults and children in acute and chronic care in Florida, California, and Minnesota. I am certified in Mind Body Medicine through The Center for Mind Body Medicine and currently practice at a substance use disorder/mental health clinic and group home in Burnsville.

MATZ, MAS, LICSW SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT – STRESS RESILIENCE

I am a psychotherapist, educator, and writer who specializes in global trauma relief and death and dying.  I serve as the Stress Resilience Subject Matter Expert at Stillpoint Engage, and am both as a Senior Faculty Member of the Center for Mind-Body Medicine and a Clinical Education Specialist at PrairieCare.  I have an extensive history working with children of all ages as well as adults.  I have sought post-graduate training in transpersonal development, clinical hypnosis, guided imagery, and several other healing modalities, and incorporate imagery, breath work, meditation, and transpersonal development throughout my work. I speak to healing from her own extensive trauma history.  Be on the lookout for my book which is expected out in 2022!
